About Us

Tevel Zion is a small Jewish community movement built around a simple idea: every Jew has value, every Jew has a place, and every Jew can take another step toward HaShem. We encourage people to become better at whatever they do, to remember HaShem in their daily lives, and to look for opportunities to bring more Torah and mitzvot into the way they live. We are not looking for perfection. We believe Jewish growth happens over time, and every sincere step matters.

Our community is growing both online and in person. We are based in the Kiryat Moshe community of Jerusalem, Israel, and in Houston, Texas, USA. Through online learning, conversations, community activities, and personal connections, we hope to reach Jews who may not have a synagogue nearby or who may not feel comfortable walking into one. We also welcome people who have no synagogue affiliation and those who are sincerely interested in learning about Judaism, Jewish life, and our traditions.

Tevel Zion is Orthodox in its beliefs and approach to Torah. At the same time, we do not force people to follow a certain level of observance, and we do not measure someone’s value by how religious they appear to be. Some members may be fully observant, while others may be secular, traditional, or just beginning to explore their Jewish identity. We encourage each person to grow closer to HaShem and to do the mitzvot they are able to do. Sometimes that may begin with learning a little Torah. For someone else, it may mean saying a brachah, keeping part of Shabbat, giving tzedakah, or simply becoming more connected to other Jews.

We also recognize the great variety within the Jewish people. Jewish communities are commonly identified as Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Mizrahi, and within each are many customs, family traditions, languages, and ways of expressing Jewish life. We believe those differences should add richness to our community rather than divide us. A Jew should not have to give up the traditions of their family or background in order to feel welcome.

One of our most important goals is to reach people who feel alone. Some Jews live far from an established Jewish community. Others may feel too shy to attend a local shul or may believe they do not know enough to fit in. We want them to know that they are wanted, that their questions are welcome, and that they have an important place in HaShem’s world. Community can begin with a conversation, and sometimes that first connection can change the direction of a person’s Jewish life.

We believe the Torah is the word of G-d and a true account of the foundation and history of our people. We also understand Torah as law and as a guide for how a Jew should live. Together with the teachings and traditions that have been passed down through generations, Torah gives us a way of life that connects everyday choices with our relationship to HaShem.

Tevel Zion also believes in tikkun olam, the responsibility to help repair and improve the world around us. We look for ways to help people wherever they may be, without making kindness depend on someone’s location, background, or beliefs. We believe that becoming closer to HaShem should also make us more aware of the people around us and more willing to help when we can.

We are still a small and growing community, but that is part of what makes Tevel Zion personal. We want people to know one another, learn together, support one another, and have a place where they can belong. Our hope is that someone who begins by simply being curious about Judaism may eventually discover a stronger connection to the Jewish people, to Torah, and to HaShem.
