A parashat means a “portion” of the Torah. Each parashat is a section of the Torah that talk about and deals with specific and common themes. The traditional “chapters” and “verses” are merely a method humans added later to divide, identify, and referance specific parts of the Torah. It is the parashat that we learn from each shabbat.
